Update 9/7/14

Hey guys! It is once again a new month. If you are younger than college age, you are back in school once again. I feel for you guys. I have to do the new school year thing every three months (with one week off between three quarters and a month off for summer). Not fun. However you didn't come here to read about starting school again. You came for anime. That is what I have for you.

August has been an extremely busy month for me. And I can foresee that September will be an even busier month. In the coming month I have only a few more weeks of school left for this quarter and on Monday I am actually going to interview for an intern position at a clinic. Crossing my fingers I get it. So not only is school a busy part, my computer issues from the beginning of the month had set off some kind of snowball effect which in turn caused my computer to crash once again on Labor Day. Needless to say that they have fixed it again, but as a precaution I got a second computer.

My lock screen picture: Sword Art Online 2 Sinon and Kirito

My wallpaper: Naruto Shippuden Sasuke and Naruto

Despite the hassles of losing my computer for a week, I am still going to pump out this update for you and it will be the best recap EVER.

So August was another month of big purchases. As I said last week, I went to the State Fair and purchased some amazing merch.

Manga I purchased:
- D. Gray-Man volume 24
- Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan volume 22
- Shonen Jump volume 129
- Shonen Jump volume 130
- Naruto volume 41
- Naruto volume 55
- Naruto volume 58
- Bleach volume 61

Shows I purchased:
- Junjo Romantica Season 1
- Junjo Romantica Season 2

Music I purchased:
- "Errand" by Faylan from Qwaser of Stigmata
- Ignite EP by Eir Aoi from Sword Art Online 2
- "Goyanomachiawase" by Hello Sleepwalkers from Noragami

Merchandise I purchased:
- Vampire Knight Pocket Watch

- Pandora Hearts Pocket Watch

- Sailor Moon Gold Pendent Set

- D. Gray-Man Wall Scroll

- Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan Wall Scroll

So not as much as July but still a hefty amount. I am happy with my purchases.

Now as for highlights of August updates...

August 3rd: My summer 2014 anime and July recap + Bleach Hell Verse review
August 10th: Beast Master review and Long anime
August 17th: Legend of Legendary Heroes Review and Female Leads
August 24th: My summer 2014 anime top summer OP + top 10 OP of all time and honorable mentions along with Naruto and Bleach top OP
August 31st: Fall expectations and Naruto Shippuden recap

Computers issues were a big part of a lot of August on top of being extremely busy.

8/10/14: "Hey guys. I will begin by saying...this last week sucked. Big time. My computer crapped out on Monday and I didn't get it back until Wednesday. Then it wasn't letting me do anything on it until I found out what had been blocked on it by Friday. So needless to say I was busy. Plus all my homework I had done last weekend, I had to redo this week. This blog? I wrote it on Saturday at work. Yep, I didn't have the time to do my blog this week. How unsettling is that? Very. I was not happy. Now my computer is almost back to the way it was AND I have a new wallpaper on it."

8/17/14: "Hey guys! It is once again that time of the week where I get to ramble on about anime and stuff. Though you are probably wondering what is going on with me that I have actually posted early two weeks in a row?? Well I rushed last week because of my computer issue and wound up getting it done early and this week I have a concert today. I'm going to see Def Leppard and Kiss. Don't judge me, I love them both. So as you can see I do have a life outside of anime. Not a very extensive life but a life nonetheless. Thankfully. Anyway...you didn't come here to listen to me ramble on and on about my pathetic life, you are here for anime."

8/24/14: "Hey guys! It certainly has been a tough week. I had midterm exams to study for and boy was it a lot. I'm doing really good in school right now, which helps me out when I stick to a strict schedule for my blog. I won't get into that though because I actually have a blog planned at the end of September that is all about time management. So I guess what I am really trying to get at is...August has been a busy month for me. Stressful too. I am actually going to be busy next Sunday too. I am going to the State Fair. Super excited! My little sister and I are going to hit up all the anime booths we can. Eek. I'll show any goodies I get in my recap post."

8/31/14: "Hey guys, it's time for a new update. Let's start out by saying...this kind of thing where I update early won't be a usual thing. Today just so happens to be the fair. I'm going anime shopping. *grins* I'll post pictures of any goodies I get in the recap update."

As I typed this up, I realized that my last update (8/31/14) was 10 pages long! Can you believe that? Neither can I.

My question for you guys this week is. Do you have a fair? If you do, what do you like to do there? I ate Chinese food, cheese curds, and shopped a lot.

On to the next topic of discussion. Remember back in June when I did the Bleach review? How I said it replaced a different review?

Well it is time to actually make due on that promise. I am going to finally review the anime Date a Live. Reason? Because the anime itself is "complete" right now. At least the first two seasons are.

A series that started in 2013 with 13 episodes and had a second season in 2014 with 10 episodes has been amazing. The series is streamed in the US by FUNimation. They have dubbed the first season and I highly anticipate the second season. I can almost guarantee that they will also gain the rights to the movie that was announced at the end of season two. The movie hasn’t gained a release date nor a title.

The series, while your typical harem anime, has some very lovable characters. Plus the male protagonist isn’t like your typical harem guy. He is a sweetheart who honestly cares about these girls, whether it is brotherly-love or honest love, he is a really good guy.

Shido Itsuka – Nobunaga Shimazaki and Josh Grelle (Saeko Zogo played Shiori
Tohka Yatogami – Marina Inoue and Michelle Rojas
Origami Tabiichi – Misuzu Togashi and Michelle Lee
Kotori Itsuka – Ayana Taketatsu and Bryn Apprill
Kurumi Tokisaki – Asami Sanada and Alexis Tipton
Yoshino & Yoshinon – Iori Nomizu and Tia Ballard
Kaguya Yamai – Maaya Uchida
Yuzuru Yamai – Sarah Emi Bridaett
Miku Izayoi – Minori Chihara
Reine Murasame – Aya Endo and Barrett Nash
Kyouhei Kannazuki – Takehito Koyasu and J. Michael Tatum
Kawagoe “Bad Marriage” – Go Inoue and Christopher Sabat
Mikimoto “Boss” – Kentaro Tone and Bradley Campbell
Hinako Shiizaki “The Nail Knocker” – Satomi Akesaka andMaeghan Albach
Nakatsugawa “The Dimension Breaker” – Gorgeous and Matt Thurston
Minowa “Deep Love” – Tomoko Usami and Sara Ragsdale
Elliot Baldwin Woodman – Joji Nakata and Paul Dobson
Ryouko Kusakabe – Ao Takahashi and Caitlin Glass
Mana Takamiya – Misato and Felecia Angelle
Sir Issac Ray Peram Westcott – Ryotaro Okiayu
Ellen Mira Mathers – Shizuka Ito

The characters mentioned above are the pertinent ones. The characters who make reappearances or have a massive effect on the storyline. There are a bunch of Shido’s friends who aren’t listed but are played by amazing people (the trio of girls: Jaime Marchi, Monica Rial, and Leah Clark). It’s not that I didn’t want to list them, I just would have run out of room (more like my hands would have started to hurt).

Shido’s harem consists of Tohka, Origami, Kotori, Kurumi, Yoshino, KaguyaYuzuru, and MikuShido has shown to have romantic feelings for Tohka while has also shown slight interest (even if he is creeped out 90% of the time) by Kurumi. Origami is an obsessive freak whereas Kotori is just his sister (even though she loves him more than a brother). Yoshino is like a cute little sister who vies for Shido's attention. Kaguya and Yuzuru march to the beat of their own crazy drum. They have shown feelings for Shido but it is questionable if it is only because they are fighting against one another. Now Miku is the toughest. She may or may not have feelings for Shido. We shall see how it turns out in the future. She may just tolerate him.

As you can probably guess, I had watched both seasons of this show from the beginning during the Japanese dub. Then I had found the first episode for free on iTunes in English. Shortly after I got my subscription to FUNimation I watched the entire first season in English. This was actually a half-way decent dub. First off, it has J. Michael Tatum in it. He plays a pervert. There is nothing better. Now the real test was whether or not they could accomplish good choices for the main cast.

I've always like Josh Grelle and I think he does amazing as Shido. Then you have the wonderful Tia Ballard who everyone knows as Happy from Fairy Tail. She plays the cutesy Yoshino and the noisy Yoshinon. I am still questioning Michelle Rojas' portrayal of Tohka, but I can live with it. And FINALLY they made a young girl sound like a young girl! I hate when you have a young girl and give her an adult sounding voice. Bryn Apprill plays her perfectly. She is actually also the voice of Meldy from Fairy Tail. Of course I cannot talk voice actors without bringing up two of the women who are on the main cast list that bring their roles to life.

First is Alexis "TipTop" Tipton. She plays my favorite Date a Live character Kurumi. She brings the right amount of psycho to this sociopath. (If I was being 100% honest, out of all the girls Shido has to choose from, I'd want him to pick Kurumi) Alexis has a lot of anime under her belt. These are just a few:

Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero - Haruka Nagase (Vice President)
Aquarion EVOL - MIX
Blood-C - Saya Kisaragi
Chrome Shelled Regios - Myunfa Rufa
Dance in the Vampire Bund - Yuki Saegusa
The Devil is a Part-Timer! - Rika Suzuki
Fairy Tail - Millianna
Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos - Julia Crichton
Haganai - Rika Shiguma (so pissed that she never says "Fuck")
The Legend of the Legendary Heroes - Eslina Folkel
Linebarrels of Iron - Emi Kizaki
Rosario + Vampire - Moka Akashiya
Sekirei - Musubi and Yume
Space Dandy - Honey

Then you have Caitlin Glass. She plays the captain of the AST Ryouko. If you know anything about the show then you know why this character is a favorite of mine. In the resort episode of season one, Ryouko wants a much needed break and makes plans to go on a trip. Her AST crew makes plans for her to go to a resort and along the way a ton of trouble is caused. Caitlin plays this role PERFECTLY. She, like Alexis, has a lot of roles under her belt. She is also a well loved ADR Director. Some of her roles are:

Aquarion - Chloe Click
Aquarion EVOL - Zessica Wong
Baccano! - Miria Harvent
Black Butler 2 - Hannah Annafellows
Black Cat - Saya Minatsuki
Burst Angel - Takane Katsu
Cat Planet Cuties - Lawry (the feels)
A Certain Magical Index - Kikyo Yoshikawa
D. Gray-man - Lala (again, the feels)
The Devil is a Part-Timer! - Mayumi Kisaki
Fairy Tail - Everygreen
Freezing - Satellizer el Bridget
Fullmetal Alchemist - Winry Rockbell
Karneval - Tsubaki
Kaze no Stigma - Catherine McDonald
Level E - Osamu Momochi/White Ranger
Okami-san and her Seven Companions - Otohime Ryugu
One Piece - Nefertari Vivi
Ouran High School Host Club - Haruhi Fujioka
Shuffle! - Nerinae/Lycoris
Sword Art Online - Midori Kirigaya (Kirito's Aunt)

As you can see I absolutely love these ladies. They are wonderful in their roles and make it worth watching. The other actors too bring the show to reality and show the story in a way that emphasizes the original story in this new language. (Warning: this next clip contains a spoiler of a scene in the show from the first few episodes)

Besides the voices, there is another part that draws me in. Yep, you guessed it. The opening songs. They are so beautiful and paired with the songs, it made me actually want to watch the show.

Instead of rambling on about the music like I usually do, I will put it up to whoever wants to watch the show to fall in love with the same music that I did.

So I don't go into too much detail about the story and spoil it, I will end this review here with: I cannot wait for the movie to see how they continue the story. It is sure to be amazing.

For now the series gets a 8 out of 10 from me.

What is your favorite part of this show? Do you watch the show? Did you like the English dub or do you prefer the Japanese dub? Would you have rather seen a different show reviewed? Let me know and I will consider reviewing it.

Okay so this week for Character of the Week, I am doing something different. I am not going into detail about this character because shortly I will be doing a show review and all the information I am going to say here I will say there.

This week I have selected:

Sailor Moon.

In the original English adaptation she was known as Serena.

In the Japanese dubs and the newest English dub she is known as Usagi.

She is a crybaby, a heroine, and a princess.

When I was like 7 she was my hero.

Who was your childhood hero?

Well guys, that is it for this week. Let me know what you think. Sorry it was so late, if it weren't for my computer issues it would already be up but when you have computer issues in college. Finishing your homework comes before doing your blog. So until next time.

Ja ne.

xx Kat
=^.^=

P.S. if you are looking for the Naruto and Bleach reviews, I apologize that you have to wait until next week. I know the Naruto chapter was amazing, but I just didn't have time to write about them. Gomenasai. For now here is a page from the chapter:
