Korean Break Part 3: Bulletproof Boy Scouts

Atten hut, ARMY! Our bulletproof boys are the stars of this update, so sit back, relax, and fangirl over your favorite boy!

BTS otherwise known as Bulletproof Boy Scouts, Bangtan Boys, Bangtan Sonyeondan, or 방탄소년단. This group was formed on June 13th of 2013. I'm here today to break down the cute, the sexy, and the downright popular Korean group who is ruling the hip-hop/k-pop scene.

Quite the age-range. Now I know some of you are curious about why there are two numbers. Well, the age in italics are the members' Korean age. Curious what a Korean age is? Well in Korea you are 1 years old at birth and you gain a year at each new year. To do the math...well take my age for example. My birthday is July 27th, 1992. Subtract 1992 from 2016 and you get 24 - which is the age I am turning this year. However add 1 to that and you get my Korean age of 25. Even though I am still only 23, I would be considered 25 in Korea. I gained 2 years by "going" to a country. Lol.

So going back to the members, I introduced my cousin to the group and told her to pick a member she thought was cute. She chose V. My little sister chose Jungkook. And I'll tell you my favorite later...unless you follow me on Instagram and you already know. But anyway, she had a hard time remembering everyone's names because 7 is a lot of members to a newbie. So she renamed the whole group. (Little did she know she actually came close to one member's nickname and actually got a member's nickname)

Jin - Gin and Juice
Suga - Sugar
J-Hope - Hopey
Rapmonster - Rap God
Jimin - Meanie Pants
*fun fact: On Weekly Idol they nicknamed him Mini*
V - Boyfriend V
Jungkook - Kookie

Cute names right? Lol. I made her find V in each of their videos. She always second guessed herself and got it wrong. She would whisper to herself who she originally thought (which would always be right) and then she'd say she was wrong and say someone different (usually Jin or Jungkook and sometimes Suga).

Enough about the boys. Let's get into the music. So usually I would attach a music video with a featured song, but I won't be doing that today. I actually went through and watched their music videos and analyzed them. But we'll get to that in a minute.

It's really tough to pick a song that is my absolute favorite, but I have been really obsessed with War of Hormone, Save ME, and Fire lately. What is your all-time favorite BTS song? I don't own all of their music but I do listen to all of it on my Pandora because I don't have an endless supply of money so I have to buy their music in little chunks in order to buy them all. My next chunk will include Butterfly from The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt. 2.

Anyway, let's move on to the analysis of their music videos. So I decided to do this because BTS has very intricate music videos to support their amazing music. Let's take a look at these videos.

Dope

Dope is a very creative music video. Each member is dressed in a different costume. Jung kook is a police officer. Jimin is a business man or an office worker. V is an inspector or detective. Rap monster is a military man. Suga is a pilot captain. J-Hope is a race car driver and Jin is a doctor. The costumes allow them to exude more confidence than they already do, especially when you take in the lyrics. They are hard workers and they won't take crap from anyone. They are dope and they own what they do.

One thing that stands out in all the music videos is that someone always has a hair color that sets them apart sometimes it is only one or sometimes it is several members. This video has: Jimin with his bright red hair and Suga with his bleach blonde locks.

I Need U

There are actually two version of this music video. You have the short version and the extended version. Both tell the same story, you just get different feels from each story in the two different versions. The story depicts the friendship of all the members, the bonds between them, each of them has a reason for being broken and sad, and the heartbreak that befalls them through different tragedies. The extended original version is actually my favorite but it's really hard to watch because...well, just watch it and you'll see.

As for the hair color, this time around it is Suga with his peach-pink colored hair and Rapmonster with his blonde hair.

Rating: 9/10

Save ME

This is actually one of their more simple music videos. They are all dancing in an open field. Simple. This video has a very heartfelt feel to it like it is for the fans. Especially the part where Rapmonster says thank you.

The hair is pretty simple as well. Suga still has his gray hair and Rapmonster still has his blue hair. V is now a fiery red (same color as Jimin in Dope) and Jin is still blonde.

Rating: 10/10

Danger

I find this to be one of their hottest videos. They are tough, bad boys who have been hurt one too many times by the girl they love. You definitely wouldn't want to break their hearts or play them for fools after seeing this music video.  Something cool about this video is the opening scene and a few scenes that pop up in-between. Rapmonster is writing and later giving himself a tattoo. Suga is playing basketball. Jimin is boxing. Jungkook is playing and later breaking a piano. J-hope is dancing and Jin is setting a car on fire.

Hair, hair, hair. Rapmonster has blonde hair for this m/v, Suga has gorgeous red hair, and Jin also has red hair.

Rating: 10/10

Boy in Luv

Innocence. The feeling of first love. The friends who help you achieve that love. Having a high school crush. Being harassed by a bad boy. That is what you will find in this music video. My favorite part is when Jungkook, Jin, and Jimin are confessing. I'm not a fan of Suga being a bully but his character fits for the video concept.

Back to hair. Only two this time around. V was sporting a orange hair color while Rapmonster was rocking the blonde.

Rating: 8/10

Fire

This is another very hot video. I think I personally like it because the opening is focused on Suga. This video exudes the Bangtan Boys' masculinity on top of their youth. They are forever young and forever amazing men who don't care about anything but having a good time.

The hair this time around brought some new changes. Rapmonster sported a mint hair color. Suga has gray hair. V has orange hair again. And Jin is now blonde.

Rating: 10/10

We Are Bulletproof, Pt. 2

As their second ever released video, this is actually really interesting. They are tough, they are bulletproof, and they are not to be messed with. The overall feel of the video is that they are gonna rule.

The only one of note that has hair of a different color is V with his blonde hair.

Rating: 7/10

N.O

This video is one of my favorites. It starts out in a military enforced school environment. All the boys are sitting in desk, made to take a red pill, and forced to learn. It's weird because Rapmonster has his hair down in this scene and he looks hot. The overall message feels of breaking free from brainwash and a controlled life style of living out someone else's dream. To not being controlled and being yourself. Plus Jimin's dancing is something else.

Only two again for this video. Suga has his red hair while V is still blonde.

Rating: 9/10

Just One Day

Yet another simple video. They are all sitting on chairs singing. Very simple dancing as well.

Their hair is not simple though. Jin and Jungkook have red hair. V has orange hair again. Rapmon has gray hair.

Rating: 8/10

War of Hormone

What can't be said about this video? They are hot. They are sexy. They are something out of this world...or at least this country. Rapmon is all about respect and worshipping his woman. Jungkook is a boy who is ready to be a man. V is very playful but dangerously hot when it comes to women. Jimin is cute but sexy. Jin can give you what you want. Suga is ready to make you his. And J-Hope is ready to be respectful but isn't about to be a pushover.

It's hard to tell with the coloring of the video almost sepia like or full of gray-overtones, but there are three that stand out. Rapmonster and V with their blonde hair (different shades obviously) and Suga with his red hair.

Rating: 10/10

No More Dream

This was their debut song and their debut video. They are trying to make you notice them and remember their names. Very much so the bad boys that will steal your heart.

Rating: 7/10

Run

Just like I Need U, Run tells a story. It follows the same themes as their I Need U video but sticks closer to friendship, bonds, suffering, and losing your way. You see a lot of clashing between the friends but also can see the close bonds between the others. Everyone is looking back on the good and the bad of their friendships.

This video debuted a few new hair closers. Pinkmon...I mean Rapmon was sporting pink hair and looked good while doing it. It looks like Suga's hair rubbed off on V's with the matching mint coloring. Little Mini's hair was bright orange so you could notice him everywhere he went.

Rating: 9/10

Which music video is your favorite? Mine are obviously: Fire, Danger, Save Me, and War of Hormone. Let me know if I missed anything. Cannot wait to see what the Bangtan Boys have coming for us next.

That is all for this week. Here is a peek at the group next week!
