Anime Merchandise Review #1: Master Stars Piece Akashi Seijuro
Hey guys! Welcome to yet another new post. Phew. I am trying my hardest to be a better blog mom. Anyway...As you guys probably know (if you follow me on social media), I have gotten a ton of merch in the last several months. What does this mean? I spend a shit ton of money...but that's besides the point. After a particularly complicated situation I have decided to start a merch review post series.
Master Stars Piece Akashi Seijuro
Before I talk to you about this first piece of merchandise, I need to give you a history lesson behind why I decided to start this series. Back on the 26th of December 2015, I ordered Akashi Seijuro from Crunchyroll so that I could have it in time to add to my Kuroko no Basuke review (I was going to have an additional section about anime merch for the series), but after an error in this product, I erased the entire merchandise section from the review. What is this error you ask? Well when I received my item on December 31st of 2015, I opened it to find the wrong product. I was furious. Not only did I spend a lot of money on the product and shipping (approximately $30+), but they sent me the wrong product. The worst part was...it wasn't even from the same show! I had figured that I wouldn't hear back from them for at least the next day because it was New Year's and here in the US most people are back in work by the 2nd of January (at least I was back in work). However I did not hear back from them until January 4th. But don't be fooled. The response I got back was that they received my complaint and would be replying back as soon as possible. It wasn't until February 3rd (yes, an entire month later) that I finally was in touch with both Crunchyroll and YESANIME (the company selling the figure through Crunchyroll). I learned that the reason it was taking so long was the fact that it was a technical error on Crunchyroll's webpage that wasn't letting me get in touch with YESANIME even though we were both reaching out to one another.
Now I am not bashing either company, technical error's happen, the real point of this story is how freaking amazing both companies were. Crunchyroll was bending over backwards trying to get this issue resolved even going so far as refunding me the shipping cost of the product I received. When I was finally able to email with YesAnime, I was able to explain exactly what happened including the fact that I was willing to repurchase the Akashi figurine and why I had originally purchased the figure (for a review on the blog). They were so very nice and understanding. They gave me a whole bunch of options to choose from. Including selling me the Akashi figure at a discounted price. Plus, a really cool thing about YesAnime...I ordered the new Akashi figure from them on February 3rd at like 11 AM and I had it by February 5th at like 2 PM. They shipped it all the way from California to my house halfway across the country in less than 2 days. They are absolutely amazing.
So customer service aside, let's get to the part that we are really here for. Each review that I will do is going to consist of Quality and Construction. Now I know what you're thinking...what in the hell is construction. Well let me just tell you...not all of these figurines come pre-assembled. Sometimes you have to put in work to make your figure. Anyway, let's get started.
Let's talk construction first. It was actually fairly simple to assemble Akashi. He came with five parts total (wait until my Hinata and Kirito reviews to know why five parts is nothing). The parts included 1 - his head, body, and ball, 2 - his right leg, 3 - his left leg, 4 - his foot stand, and 5 - his jacket. Pretty simple. It was rather easy to fit his legs into their correct spots because the connection pieces were designed for the right and left sides. His jacket fits right on his shoulders and suddenly I had an Akashi standing in my bedroom.
Once he was assembled I was able to fully grasp the quality of the figure. He is absolutely gorgeous. My friend on Instagram @knb.1 also got the same figure and we are both in love. He looks just like a figure of the generation of miracles captain.
I am satisfied with my care guys. Now I know what you're thinking...you wanna know price. I actually didn't spend too much on him. Not as much as I could have. The Master Stars Piece series typically run from $25-60. The Akashi figure on Crunchyroll runs $30.25 plus shipping & handling. So you would be look at like $40 or so. However, I bought Akashi (the first time) for 10% off my already discounted price for being a Premium member on Crunchyroll. So I originally only spent like $23 plus shipping. Then I got my shipping back because I got Hinata instead, so I bought Hinata for approximately regular price on Amazon. The second time I purchased Akashi for a discounted price and I won't tell you how much I spent the last time because I think that YesAnime offered me a pretty good deal the second time around. So just know I spent significantly less plus shipping.
Now the fun part. Would I recommend this item to you? Yes. 100% yes I would recommend this item. He looks so regal on my bookshelf. I just can't get over it every time I look up and see the beautiful Akashi staring at me. Okay, so I am a little bit weird but that's part of my charm.
Let me know what you guys think of this review? I'm still working out the kinks of this series. Hopefully I can do more (I know I can because I have at least 3 new figures heading this way, and 2 more on my shelf that I will review). You can catch me on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and Snapchat. Want me to follow you back on social media? Well today is your lucky day, for a limited time, I will be following back my fans but only if you follow these simple rules.
