Update 12/8/13
I know...I haven't updated in a while. I was really busy doing other things, like creating this new and beautiful blog.
Oh who am I kidding, I was just really freaking busy. Those animals...they keep you busy.
So last time I promised that I would treat you guys to my top five favorite main characters. This update is going to be all about those beautiful men. (What can I say, I'm not sexist, there just aren't too many anime where the main character is a woman). So the cool thing about this list that I put together was that I had made a video about the characters for my own personal enjoyment, along with that video I came up with songs that remind me of the characters. I had my little sister watch the video and she agreed 100% even though she only knows 2 of the 5 from her own personal viewing history. Without further ado....
Number 5: Light Yagami from Death Note.
- Song: "Hello Fascination" by Breathe Carolina
- English Voice Actor: Brad Swaile; Japanese Voice Actor: Mamoru Miyano (< remember him?)
- He is an offing psychopathic genius who plays the protagonist and the antagonist. He got away with killing for years.
- Skills: LYING, strategy
- I love both his English and Japanese Voice but that didn't help him get a higher spot on the list because he is the bad guy. I cannot put a murderer too high on my list.
Number 4: Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
- Song: "We're All to Blame" by Sum41
- English Voice Actor: Vic Mignogna; Japanese Voice Actress: Romi Park
- Ed is on of the youngest state alchemists. His age varies from 12 to 17 in the series (I think...).
- Skills: Alchemy, Martial Arts
- His voice is perfect and I think he is a wonderfully developed character unfortunately I am influenced by my first experience with him and that was the 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist anime in which he was a short, hothead that seemed too childish instead of the driven version in the 2010 Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood anime.
Number 3: Naruto Uzumaki from Naruto and Naruto Shippuden.
- Song: "Courtesy Call" by Thousand Foot Krutch (< if you follow me on Instagram or Tumblr you might have seen a snippet of my Naruto Courtesy Call video)
- English Voice Actress: Maile Flanagan, Japanese Voice Actress: Junko Takeuchi
- Naruto is an unfortunate orphan who strives to accomplish his dreams all while kicking ass, taking names, and becoming savior of the Shinobi world.
- Skills: Shadow Clone, Transformation, Rasengan, Sage Mode, Frog Kumite, RasenShuriken, Tailed Mode, and many many more.
- I really hate putting Naruto so far down on this top five list, but I really dislike Maile Flanagan's take on his voice. It is in my opinion atrocious. On the other hand, Miss Junko Takeuchi did it right. To the experienced ear, you can tell she is a woman, but to an unexperienced Japanese anime ear you wouldn't tell. Honestly though, Naruto could rise to number one or two depending on how the series pans out. This is an on-going series and he could do something in it that just makes it worth my while.
Number 2: Ichigo Kurosaki from Bleach.
- Song: "Busy Bein' Born" by Middle Class Rut
- English Voice Actor: Johnny Yong Bosch, Japanese Voice Actor: Masakazu Morita
- Ichigo is strong as all shit and only getting stronger. He is at Captain level of power within the first few months of having his power and he is only getting stronger.
- Skill: Getsuga Tensho, Blue Vein, Karate, and a few others.
- Ichigo could probably be number one depending on how this series ends when it finally does. That is the thing that sucks about my top three being ongoing story lines. I love Ichigo though, both his Japanese and his English versions. Fingers crossed for an epic comeback.
Number 1: Allen Walker from D. Gray-Man.
- Song: "S.C.A.V.A." by Hollywood Undead
- English Voice Actor: Todd Haberkorn, English Voice Actress: Sanae Kobayashi
- Allen was on elf the first anime characters I watched. He is a young boy, between the age of 15 and 17 depending on what point you are at, who struggles against the sinister Millennium Earl without even knowing about himself.
- Skill: Cross Grave, Crown Clown
- Allen will always be number one until either Ichigo or Naruto deserve to claim the spot. I always have a soft spot for Todd Haberkorn plus Sanae sings a song in the anime! (No, Naruto's tailed beast song doesn't count because it wasn't in the actual storyline). Here's to hoping that D. Gray-Man ends splendidly (unlike Vampire Knight who used to be number 2).
Well....that wraps that up. Let's talk Naruto Shippuden for a minute. Who is excited for this week's episode? I am going to be jumping on Hulu straight away Thursday morning to wait for the official stream. Finally we are getting into the good stuff. What is with Tobi's mask? (yeah I know that I already know, but I can still get excited to see it animated can't I?)
Question Time:
Keeping it really simple.
1. What is your top five main character list? Which characters top your lists?
2. What is your favorite anime inspired video game?
